Denise C. McKinney, PhD, RDH, associate professor and graduate program director in the Gene W. Hirschfeld School of Dental Hygiene, has been appointed as the Director for Inclusive Excellence in the Old Dominion University College of Health Sciences. Dr. McKinney will begin her new role on July 25, while continuing her responsibilities as the graduate program director.

In her new position, Dr. McKinney will lead and oversee the development and coordination of innovative programs aimed at fostering an inclusive and equitable environment within the college. She will work closely with the college's inclusive excellence committee, creating resources to establish the college’s inclusive excellence statement and initiatives. She will cultivate both internal and external partnerships across the university, collaborating with other diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) leaders to align the goals of the college with those of the broader campus community.

Dr. McKinney will provide guidance and support to the college’s units in their efforts to attract, retain, and nurture diverse faculty, staff, and students. She will collaborate with university leadership to leverage current programs and initiatives in line with the college’s mission and goals. Additionally, she will consult with the dean’s leadership team to establish goals for the academic year 2024-2025, addressing immediate needs and building toward successful outcomes throughout the year.
