Application Information


Applications will be accepted from prospective students who are graduates of any Commission on Collegiate Nurse Education (CCNE) or Accrediting Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN, formerly NLNAC) accredited nursing program. However, priority for admissions will be given to qualified applicants whose degrees were conferred by institutions with regional accreditation (i.e. SACS).

How to Apply

  1. Obtain and complete the ODU Graduate application online. Do not send application materials to the School of Nursing. All application materials must be completed by the posted deadline for consideration for each concentration area.

  2. Please request three references as indicated on the application form using the forms supplied. The references should be former supervisors and faculty.

  3. You will need to request that official copies of all your transcripts be sent to graduate admissions.

  4. Submission of a goal statement is required. Your goal statement should speak specifically to the concentration area to which you are applying.

  5. Submit a current resume that includes all work and education experience, as well as any scholarship or professional activity.

  1. Complete the University Non-Degree Application. Online Application

  2. Submit a School of Nursing Supplemental Application: Application Form

  3. Provide Transcript from graduate program (Nursing, PA, MBA or other)

  4. Provide copies of all relevant licenses and certifications

  5. 2-page essay describing interest in certificate program and career goals

  6. Provide two letters of recommendation (Neonatal PA applicants must provide a recommendation letter from their sponsoring physician)

Application Deadlines

Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) Programs

  • Family Nurse Practitioner - March 1st
  • Pediatric Nurse Practitioner - March 1st
  • Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner - April 15th
  • Nurse Midwifery - April 1st
  • Neonatal Nurse Practitioner - Completed applications are reviewed upon submission for fall enrollment
  • Adult Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist/Educator - Completed applications are reviewed upon submission for fall enrollment

Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Programs

  • Nurse Anesthesia DNP Program (Traditional Delivery) - For the class starting in May 2021, 2022 completed applications should be submitted no later than September 15th, 2021. The class starting in May of 2020-2021 is full.
  • Advanced Practice Post-Master's DNP
  • Nurse Executive Post-Master's DNP
