Graduate Licensure Reciprocity

It is important to be educated on the credentialing requirements in the location in which you hope to practice.

Students who are graduated from the advance practice MSN and certificate programs at ODU meet the educational eligibility criteria for taking the national board certification examination and obtaining license to practice as an Advanced Registered Practice Nurse (APRN) in Virginia. This communication addresses disclosures to prospective and current students as required by ODU’s membership in the National Council’s State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement and those set forth in 34§C.F.R. 668.43. The Registrar’s Office at ODU will first verify and confirm all degree requirements have been satisfied. Then, ODU School of Nursing will provide a validation of education where required for candidates to qualify to take the national board certification examination.

Outside Virginia

If you have an interest in pursuing APRN licensure outside the state of Virginia, we advise you to determine whether this program meets the educational requirements for graduates to be eligible to license in that location. Review the updated list of the  Professional Licensure Directory for State Boards of Nursing.

Foreign Licensure

This disclosure does not address program eligibility in countries outside the United States. We are unable to determine whether ODU advance practice MSN and certificate programs meet the educational requirements for graduates to be eligible to apply for licensure or certification outside the United States.
