Making a Living: Working and Teaching as Artists | Feb. 14, 1PM-2:30PM
Diehn Center for the Performing Arts, 1339 W. 49thStreet, Norfolk, VA
Join us for an artist panel entitled "Making a Living," with Megan Thompson (Dance), Paul Kim (Music), and Leslie Renn (Visual Art) on February 14th at 1:00-2:30 PM in Diehn 1202. The panel will focus on how people balance being a working artist and teacher. Questions will include: How did you get your first paying gigs? How/when do you perform/exhibit/work for free? How do you balance teaching and performing/creating art? What advice would you give graduating students today? What role does social media play in promoting your work? Moderated by Assistant Professor Kate Mattingly.

Dance Guest Artist Residency: Mike Esperanza | March 20-23, 2024

Students will learn new choreography from visiting artist, Mike Esperanza, which will be featured in the upcoming University Dance Theatre Spring Concert. Mike Esperanza (he/him/his/) is a multifaceted creative force, celebrated for his transformative contributions to the world of dance and choreography.

The University Dance Theatre's Spring Concert presents pieces performed by Old Dominion University students in a variety of dance styles - hip hop, modern, jazz, and contemporary ballet.
Choreographers this season include visiting artist Mike Esperanza, ODU Dance faculty James Morrow, Shane O'Hara and Megan Thompson, as well as student choreographers Kameron Clark and Ma'Kyia Frazier.
Pre-Collegiate Summer Dance Intensive | June 12 - 14, 2024, 9AM-3PM
Diehn Center for the Performing Arts, 1339 W. 49thStreet, Norfolk, VA
The Pre-Collegiate Summer Dance Intensive is a three-day summer dance intensive for the focused and open-minded dance student. Students work directly with ODU's internationally recognized and award-winning dance faculty in rigorous studio practices to build technique. Geared to studios, dance programs, their pre-collegiate high school students, and collegiate students transferring into the ODU dance program, this three-day intensive offers technique in hip hop, ballet, modern/contemporary, and yoga.
