Current ODU students, faculty and staff are eligible to borrow materials from the University Libraries. A valid ODU ID card is required. Friends of the University Libraries, ODU alumni, and specified community groups are eligible for restricted borrowing privileges.

ODU Libraries has reciprocal borrowing agreements with many institutions. These programs allow ODU faculty, staff and students to check out materials from other cooperating libraries.

ODU alumni receive one year of free borrowing privileges after graduation. Alumni may renew their borrowing privileges after the free year by making a $25 contribution to the Dominion Fund.See the ODU Alumni Association website for more information. Current students, faculty and staff at all VIVA member institutions are eligible to borrow from ODU up to 6 circulating items at a time. VIVA borrowers are, however, not eligible for LC equipment loans. Patrons from other schools who borrow under the VIVA Cooperative Borrowing Program may return materials directly to ODU or at the library at their home institution. Local high school students enrolled in advanced placement courses and Virginia teachers have limited borrowing privileges. School ID is required.
VIVA Cooperative Borrowing Program Virginia Tidewater Consortium (VTC) OCLC Reciprocal Borrowing Program (ODU Faculty only)
Current ODU students, staff and faculty are eligible to borrow materials directly from VIVA schools participating in the Cooperative Borrowing Program . Be sure to check the list of participating schools before travelling. ODU students and faculty can borrow materials directly from Hampton Roads area colleges and universities who are not part of the VIVA Cooperative Borrowing Program by obtaining a Virginia Tidewater Consortium (VTC) card at the Help Desk on the 1st floor of Perry Library. The OCLC Reciprocal Faculty Borrowing Program allows ODU faculty members to have library borrowing privileges and on-site access to the collections of many large research libraries in North America. Recalled books: $1 per day
$100 replacement fee + $20 processing charge per book. In most cases you may supply ODU Libraries with a new copy of the lost item in lieu of $100 replacement cost ($20 processing charge still applies). Replacement fee for lost reserve personal copy varies by item.

If you would like to dispute a fine or fee on your library record, submit the Library Materials Fine/Fee Appeal Form. Appeals will be answered via email within one business day.

University accounts (Banner / Leo) are blocked when debts owed to ODU Libraries reach $5. Students are still able to register for classes if the amount owed is under $100.00, however the following actions are not available until the debt is paid and the block removed: release of transcript, ability to view grades, additional accounts receivable activity.

To have blocks removed contact the Learning Commons to arrange payment. ODU Libraries accepts payment by cash, personal check, money order or Monarch Plus card. Credit cards cannot be accepted. Payments can be made in person or by U.S. mail. Monarch Plus payments can be made in person or by phone. If paying by mail please contact Learning Commons first to confirm payment amount, and make checks or money orders payable to "Old Dominion University". Debts above $25 and older than 90 days are referred to the university's collection agency, Todd, Bremer & Lawson, P.O. Box 36788, Rock Hill, SC 29732-0512. Phone: (877) 427-6544. Debt referred to the collection agency must be paid directly to them. The agency charges a 20% collection fee in addition to debt charged by ODU Libraries.
