Police Officer Applicant Type


Police Officer Applicants

If you like working with people, working outdoors, making a difference in the lives of others and have a strong desire to serve your community as well as develop yourself, then you may just be the candidate we are looking for!

 Minimum Qualifications

  • At least 21 years of age on date of hire
  • High School graduate or possess a GED (college and/or related experience preferred)
  • United States citizen
  • Good character and reputation as established by a comprehensive background investigation
  • Have a valid driver's license and a good driving record
  • Meet minimum hearing and vision requirement, correctable to 20/20 with no color deficiency
  • Proportional in weight and height
  • Willing to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays
  • Successfully pass a physical agility test.

 Disqualifiers

Criminal History
  • Conviction of any felony or any crime involving moral turpitude (crimes contrary to justice, honesty, or good morals)
  • Conviction of any Class 1 or 2 misdemeanor, including traffic violations, within the last 5 years
  • Any conviction of Domestic Violence, including simple assault against a domestic partner, spouse, child or parent
  • Any individual falling into any of the aforementioned criminal history categories, prior to conviction, that enters a plea agreement or other form of sentencing disposition to the reduction of charges will be disqualified
  • Commission of undetected crimes of a serious or repetitive nature
Traffic Violations
  • Three or more negative points on a Virginia Operator's License or the equivalent for out of state licenses
  • Two moving violations in any state within the last 12 months
  • Any conviction of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, refusal to take blood or breath test, eluding police, racing, or reckless driving or leaving the scene of an accident within the last 5 years
Drugs
  • Any involvement in the sale or distribution of illegal drugs
  • Illegal possession of anabolic steroids within the last 5 years
  • Illegal possession of marijuana or a derivative thereof within the last 12 months
  • Illegal possession of heroin, cocaine, hallucinogens or any other schedule 1 or 2 drug within the last 10 years
Credit

Demonstrated history of financial irresponsibility. Problems with credit will be evaluated on a case by case basis, and issues that are not the result of the repetitive poor judgment of the applicant will not normally be disqualifying.

Other
  • Dishonorable discharge from any military service (less than honorable discharge will be reviewed)
  • Untruthfulness or the intentional withholding of information on any application, interview or paperwork
  • Deliberate inaccuracies or incomplete statements may remove you from further consideration for employment
  • Cheating on any examination or testing associated with the position








Security Officer Applicant Type

  • High School graduate or possess a GED (college and/or related experience preferred)
  • United States citizen
  • Some security experience
  • Ability to provide security services which includes working inside and outside of building during various hours of the day.
  • Have a valid driver's license and a good driving record
  • Ability to perform required tasks during periods of inclement weather
  • Ability to maintain a neat and clean appearance/uniform
  • Willing to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions to complete assigned tasks and reports.




Police Sergeant Applicant Type


Police Sergeant Applicants

Supervise and assist subordinate officers/investigators in the performance of their duties. Provide critical first line supervisory presence for a shift of uniformed patrol officers insuring jurisdictional patrol to prevent, detect and investigate criminal acts, or shifts of detectives providing critical investigative services including case management.

 Minimum Qualifications

  • State Employees Only
  • At least 21 years of age on date of hire
  • High School graduate or possess a GED (college and/or related experience preferred)
  • United States citizen
  • Good character and reputation as established by a comprehensive background investigation
  • Have a valid driver's license and a good driving record
  • Meet minimum hearing and vision requirement, correctable to 20/20 with no color deficiency
  • Proportional in weight and height
  • Willing to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays
  • Successfully pass a physical agility test.
  • CPR and First Aid certification
